The project is a text-based advertising campaign for Agnes Scott College that expresses intersections between old and newer student culture, social proclivities of current students, and the elements that draw students to Agnes Scott. Pithy, interesting, attractive, and goofy language is put to print in Agnes Scott’s signature shades of purple and white, encouraging eyes and minds to consider the college’s social landscape in the current moment. The language aims to intrigue and connect with students, alumni, donors, faculty, and staff, and those who are new to Agnes Scott College. These prints are designed with Agnes Scott’s formal advertising style in mind, but are entirely handmade, with a custom typeface carved into linoleum and made into lino-cut prints. The repetition of the custom letters express standardization, and the handmade qualities – messiness, use of scrap paper, collaged text, varying text arrangements and display formats – demonstrate personalization and an impression of the classroom environment. The campaign provides outsiders with an inside view of Agnes Scott culture, and insiders are understood and reflected by the campaign. It intends to inspire laughter, a sense of gratitude for one’s time at Agnes Scott College, and thoughtful consideration of the unique campus character. Composed of signage in various sizes and types, the project also includes some notable prints that are hung in Dalton Gallery as a part of the Student Art Show, on display for Senior Commencement from May 3, 2026, through to May 16, 2026.
